Hunger: A Story

“As facilitators we are trained to be observant…

“As facilitators we are trained to be observant of the children we work with” says an Afrika Tikkun facilitator.  “There were 8-year-old twins who became easily irritated and would get into fights with other children and hardly participate in the activities. But after lunch, they were happy and would play peacefully with other children. I knew something was wrong, so I decided to speak to the children.” The twins explained that they had been surviving on the meal they get at the centre. “Sometimes at home, we would share a small plate of food with my sister and 3 brothers but I would still be hungry and then we will go to sleep.”

Today the family receive monthly food packages which feeds the whole family of 6. “When I eat I feel alive, strong and intelligent. I feel like I can do anything” says the twin.
