Guests seated at a long table

On 12 June 2025, Afrika Tikkun hosted a powerful Youth Month Breakfast Seminar at its Uthando Centre in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. As part of our 30-year celebration, this gathering brought together voices from government, civil society, the private sector, and our own youth to reflect on the journey of youth development in South Africa – and envision what lies ahead.

More than a milestone

This event wasn’t just a celebration – it was a call to action. A movement of collaboration and commitment. Together, we explored what it means to truly empower young South Africans in a world that’s rapidly changing, yet full of opportunity.

Insights from leaders and changemakers

We were honoured to be joined by a distinguished panel including:

  • Tiyani, Chief Operating Officer at Afrika Tikkun
  • Morongwa Ramasobane, Senior Consultant at Deloitte and Afrika Tikkun Alumni
  • Mokgadi Waleng, Client Relationship Manager at Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator
  • Amanda Ntathi Chembezi, Director of Network Engagement at Africa at Tech for All
  • Bongani Ngomane, Acting Head of Department, Gauteng Department of Social Development

Each speaker brought a unique lens to the conversation – from policy to grassroots experience, employment strategies to tech innovation.

Themes that emerged

  • The urgent need to scale multi-sectoral collaboration
  • The importance of recognising youth as co-creators of solutions, not just beneficiaries
  • The role of technology and digital access in shaping future-ready skills
  • The shared responsibility to build on what works and move beyond token gestures

What comes next?

As we continue to mark 30 years of service, events like this remind us why Afrika Tikkun exists – to develop young people from cradle to career, and to create systems that uplift communities in the long term.

To everyone who joined us, thank you for being part of this journey. Let’s keep building – together.
